Granted, the 1986 Modern Girls isn’t a Criterion masterpiece (it’s not even anything like a slice of John Hughes cheesecake from the time) BUT I will say that if you’re in the mood for a fun, campy “girls night out” time-capsule flick that highlights the nightlife scene of 1980′s Los Angeles, this just may be a keeper! The movie is jam-packed with gaudy apt kitsch, neon-lights, punk/new wave/goth youth, outrageous outfits, makeup and hairstyles (plus an abundance of one-liners that are terrible bliss).
