After a recent revisit of Jem & The Holograms (thanks to Netflix Instant Play), I realized how the 80′s cartoon was deeply infused into my fashion choices and favorite picks today. The glam makeup, bright and saturated rock n’ roll threads, senseless mismatching, and vicious attitudes made me go “I wanna be like that when I grow up”.
When I was about 4 years old, one could find me learning (and singing to the family video camera) all the catchy songs from Jem & The Holograms. Truth be told, I always preferred the music and styling of the troublesome rival band “The Misfits” even more.
That being said, Stormer, the blue-haired keytarist (and the only Misfits member with any sense of empathy) was my favorite. Still, to this day, I think about her hair color and red-orange face paint. Basically, what I’m saying is that Ziggy Stardust would’ve dug her style. Basically, what I’m saying is that a cartoon I watched when I was four is responsible for my opinions today.
